Recognizing that customers need to work effectively with models from many sources, Kubotek actively develops technology to automate and accelerate the process of improving the quality of transferred models. Once imported models have been repaired, the intelligence within the geometry can be leveraged.

There are several sources of errors that can create problems when 3D models are transferred between CAD/CAM systems. A fundamental problem is that the popular 3D CAD databases used across the global supply chain each generate and define complex solid and surface entities in proprietary methods and at different tolerance levels. These systems often require native models to be used for editing purposes. If the history in the model doesn't support the change needed, the model ends up getting rebuilt.

Complex solid models that have been passed through multiple CAD databases frequently end up as a pile of hundreds of surfaces of which a small percentage have been lost or become corrupt. Kubotek's real editing technology supports quick stitching of hundreds of adjacent surfaces into a single body. If those surfaces fully enclose a volume, the result will be a solid. If some areas need rebuilding, Kubotek provides a full set of tools to do it quickly.

Model Simplification The newest breakthrough in model repair is simplification technology. Simplification changes the general approximated spline faces found in imported models to high-quality analytic faces (cylinder, torus, plane, etc.) where an analytic face is more appropriate. Analytic faces support feature editing and speed the evaluation of modeling operations by producing much smaller files. This technology also re-intersects the faces to add or correct tolerant edge conditions and allow direct solid modeling operations to be performed. Our simplification technology also detects and automatically merges redundant faces and edges. The ultimate result is a more compact, precise, and higher fidelity design.

Kubotek provides users with automatic and manual modes to run imported models through a wizard-style healing interface. Kubotek healing technology provides automated detection of problems in a model and error and tolerance repair. Model inaccuracies, such as zero-length edges, sliver faces, redundant faces and duplicate vertices are removed. Face normals and negative face areas are also corrected.

Kubotek technology allows designers, engineers and manufacturing teams to immediately leverage imported models, regardless of the originating CAD system.
